Gung Ho proves a massive success
Gung Ho proves a massive success

Almost 80 runners went Gung-Ho! over 5km at Brands Hatch on Saturday in support of the Kent Sports Trust Foundation.

Around 3,000 people of all shapes, sizes, and ages ran, jumped, and bounced their way around the 10-obstacle Gung-Ho! Kent course at Brands Hatch, Fawkham.

Among the masses at Brands Hatch tackling the biggest inflatable course on Earth were over 75 supporters of the Kent Sports Trust Foundation, including a Holiday Extras team, Results Fitness Medway, Gravesham Borough Youth F.C. U13s, and ambassador for the charity Charlotte Evans MBE.

On their way around the Seriously Fun 5k course, all of the Gung-Ho! Kent participants had to overcome not only the brand-new “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” and “Danger Zone” obstacles but also “The Thriller”.

Given The Thriller is Europe’s tallest inflatable slide – at an impressive 72-feet tall – and boasts a long foam party finish, the vast majority of Gung-Ho! Kent runners left Brands Hatch both beaming AND drenched.

The event itself is the brainchild of CBeebies presenter Alex Winters, who was thrilled by Gung-Ho!’s second visit to the region.

“The people of Kent have been so up for Gung-Ho!, and this year they went crazier than ever for it,” Winters said.

“It was just fantastic to see so many people smiling and laughing as they took on our inflatables – and won.”

“People were helping each other out all around the course, and there were so many people overcoming their own personal challenges, running in memory of loved ones or for charity. That is what it is all about for me.”

For the 75+ runners who elected to take on Gung-Ho! Kent in aid of the Kent Sports Trust Foundation, a bespoke charity running top, a Gung-Ho! bib with race number, a Gung-Ho! T-shirt, and a Gung-Ho! headband were their just reward.

CEO of the Kent Sports Trust Foundation Steve Wolfe was 1 of the almost 80-strong Kent Sports Trust Foundation squad at Brands Hatch on Saturday.

Wolfe said: “Because we knew how enjoyable and accessible the first edition of Gung-Ho! Kent was in 2016, we were overjoyed to be selected as the local charity partner for the 2017 installment.”

“Suffice it to say, we and our supporters have had a thoroughly entertaining day at Brands Hatch – I personally can’t remember the last time I smiled so much in an hour!

“Thanks to those aforementioned supporters, we have already raised over £3,000 via Gung-Ho! Kent and are still collecting donations from our fantastic fundraisers.”

The Kent Sports Trust Foundation is planning to stage a series of further charity events in 2017, including a 3-day cycle ride, a golf day, a darts challenge, and more.
