Brands Hatch will once again host World Championship racing in 2027, for the first time in four decades, with Formula E coming to the circuit.

The London E-Prix will have a new home from 2027 as Brands Hatch takes on hosting duties following an FIA announcement this morning. The Kent circuit will host the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on 29/30 May next year.
It moves to Brands Hatch for an action-packed double-header weekend, returning World Championship single-seater racing to the site for the first time in more than four decades. This sees the circuit enter its second century by welcoming the cutting-edge GEN4 era to its calendar.
The move brings the pinnacle of electric racing to a track steeped in motorsport lore, blending rich heritage with future-facing innovation. In the first year of a multi-year agreement, the grid will tackle the full Grand Prix circuit, with some small modifications to support Formula E regeneration, subject to FIA homologation.
Formula E arrives at Brands Hatch at the start of its new era of speed and sustainability, with the arrival of the GEN4 car offering a massive boost in power and velocity. The next-generation machine debuts with active all-wheel drive, lightning-fast acceleration (0-100kph in 1.8 seconds) and 100% recyclable or reusable construction.
As a double-header race weekend, the Brands Hatch event will also feature a transformative new race format for the GEN4 era, with the classic race (E-Prix) joined by an all-new shorter race (E-PrixUnleashed). This had been introduced to showcase the full, unrestricted power of the GEN4 car and deliver a fast-paced racing style.
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship also welcomes a new manufacturer for next season, with German automotive powerhouse Opel officially joining a premium field of manufacturers including Jaguar, Porsche, Nissan, Citroën, Mahindra and Lola Cars.
Brands Hatch’s return to the global single-seater stage comes as part of the most expansive Formula E calendar to date, with a record-breaking 21 races across 13 global cities.
Speaking about the move, Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: “Entering the GEN4 era, Brands Hatch sits as a natural home for this new era of electric racing. It’s a venue that holds a special place for me personally, having grown up nearby I used to ride my motorcycle here to watch racing, and I have always viewed it as an incredible, under-utilised circuit that I am sure will provide a thrilling setting for the British debut of GEN4 racing.
“Working closely with Jonathan Palmer and the MSV team, we’ve secured a long-term partnership that will see Formula E become a marquee event on such an iconic race track. We are incredibly excited to bring the future of electric racing to Brands Hatch, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness the full power of the next generation of electric racing in a truly historic setting.”
A delighted Jonathan Palmer, MSV Chief Executive, said: “Formula E’s arrival at Brands Hatch in 2027 represents a major landmark for the venue, the championship and British motorsport. The impressive evolution of Formula E, with the GEN4 car delivering such a big step up in performance, means our iconic Grand Prix circuit can provide exactly the kind of challenge the championship deserves.
“The prospect of combining leading-edge automotive technology with one of the world’s most loved classic circuits is hugely exciting. I’m certain it will create a fantastic spectacle, broaden Formula E’s appeal, and help introduce the championship to many more traditional motorsport fans.
“Formula E has come of age, and its debut at Brands Hatch marks the start of a bold new chapter.”
