Successful weekend for Canterbury Harriers

At the 2019 Rightmove MK Marathon, Karen Bennett, after 81 attempts, finally achieved a marathon under the 4 hour mark in 3:53:47.

She missed the London Marathon good for age by 47 seconds, but she says she ‘doesnt care’ and is just ecstatic to make the time.

At the ITU World Aquathlon Championships, Yiannis Christodoulou from Canterbury Harriers and Ashford Tri Club was 7th overall in his age category 35-39 in a time of 37:34 which consisted of a 1km swim in the river in tough current conditions and a 5k run.

He was also first Brit back of a total of 10 for his age group.  There were 42 participating in his race. Yiannis has pre-qualified for the world championships next year but won’t be taking his position as he is concentrating on other sporting goals.

Simon Jones also completed the Aquathlon and finished in 19th place in 38:05 in his age category 40-44, despite having achilles problems during the race.

Claire Pluckrose finished a fantastic debut for GB in the ITU World Sprint Duathlon Championships, coming 3rd in her age group 50-54 in a time of 1:11:11.

Dave Bowden completed the ITU World Long Distance Triathlon Championships for age group 55-59 in a time of 7:37:33. The swim was cut short from 3k to 1.5k due to really cold river and air temperatures. It took Dave quite a while to get going after the swim due to the temperature.
