Running to escape the in-laws?
Running to escape the in-laws?

If you’re already thinking about how to shift some of those post Christmas pounds, there’s loads of runs planned for Kent.

Santa runs

Most of the fourteen Kent parkruns will be open for business on Boxing Day, giving you the perfect chance to escape the in-laws for an hour or two.

Shorne Woods will be having a break, but there will be plenty of chance to run elsewhere in the county.

A nice 5km plod through some of the county’s countryside could be just the cure for too much turkey or christmas pudding.

Even better still, why not escpae the mayhem of Christmas morning, get your trainers on and join one of the few runs taking place across Kent.

Ashford parkrun, Great Lines parkrun, Maidstone parkrun, Margate parkrun and Whitstable parkrun will all be hosting Christmas morning events for those wanting to escape the chaos.

If the sprouts have got the better of you and you need some fresh air, why not join one of the charity runs taking place across Kent over the festive period?

This Sunday there is the 2015 Cylcorun Christmas Cracker at Cyclopark near Gravesend with runs for all ages and abilities, with a 5 mile and fun run at Betteshanger Park near Deal on the same day.

The 41st Saltwood Boxing Day Charity Fun Run will take place in Hythe, funnily enough on Boxing Day, with a large entry expected for the three mile mud and hills trek.

On Sunday 27th December there is an End of Year 10 Mile Run in Staplehurst with Lamberhurst holding their New Year’s Day 5km and 10km runs for those that didn’t have too many sherries the night before.

Again, there will be various parkruns running on New Year’s Day, so there’s no excuse not to get out and burn some of those calories consumed sitting on the sofa watching dreadful Christmas TV.

If you can’t stand the thought of running and standing is more your thing after consuming half a turkey and three tonne of cake, then why not volunteer at one or some of the many events on offer?

Most importantly, Christmas is a time for giving, so give your trainers the chance to escape from the cupboard under the stairs, thank all of the volunteers that put on these runs and don’t forget to bring your best fancy dress.
