Kent League Premier Division week 10

Victories for the top three meant that there was no change at the peak of the Kent League Premier Division.

Despite losing the toss and being asked to field first, St Lawrence & Highfield Court enjoyed a very comfortable victory over Bexley. All of the bowlers claimed wickets, John Grewar being the most successful bowler with 3 for 25, as the visitors slumped to 135 all out.

Dan Stickels then hit 72 not out at a run a ball as the Shrimpers romped home by nine wickets in just under twenty overs.

Second placed Hayes also had a straight-forward win when visiting bottom club Lordswood. They won the toss and elected to bat and Aaron Burrage led the way with an unbeaten century, after Will Harby scored 31. Calum MacLeod claimed 3 for 29 from ten overs as the innings closed on 230 for 7.

MacLeod (34) and Linden Lockhart (30) put on 62 for the first wicket but when Scott Gallagher removed them both, the chase fell apart and they were bowled out for 119. Gallagher finished with 5 for 20 from his ten overs.

Third placed Blackheath also kept themselves in contention with a win on the road at Whitstable. Having chosen to bat first, they were in trouble at 19 for 3 but Matt Golding came in and settled them down with a big knock. Frustratingly for him, he was run out for 99 before his team were bowled out for 246. Cameron Wilshaw returned 3 for 25.

Not for the first time this season the father and son combination of Sam and Jaydn Denly gave the coastal team hope. At 66 for 5, they were in trouble but a century partnership between them looked to make it interesting. However, when the younger was out for 77, the captain was left fighting a lone battle and when he was last out for 61, they were 25 runs adrift. Arafat Bhuiyan returned 3 for 39.

Visiting Minster, Bromley suffered defeat after winning the toss and batting first. Agastya Tripathi scored 61, Oliver Butterfill 49, Ollie Streets 41, and Aditya Kumar 36 before they were bowled out for 276. Enamul Haque Jnr took 4 for 35 and Jack Benkenstein 3 for 34.

Following their opening partnership of 200 seven days earlier, Ed Moore and James Thompson enjoyed another century plus stand between them before the former was out for 39. Thompson went on to complete his second consecutive ton, eventually falling for 148 from just 91 deliveries. Ben Chapelhow played his part with a hard hitting 55 as the Sheppey team cruised home by five wickets with twelve overs to spare. Marcus Lilley took three of the five wickets to fall at the cost of 55 runs.

Finally, there was an abandonment when Tunbridge Wells hosted Sevenoaks Vine. The hosts were asked to bat first and lost three early batters for single figures. Opener Viraj Bhatia held firm with 44, Ollie Morgan scored 33, Michael Waller 31 and Sam Huggett 31 not out.

However, when George Garrett removed Waller with a ball that reared up, following another lifter and one that shot through low, umpires Antony Galt and John Hope got together and decided that it wasn’t safe to continue and called the game off with the Wells’ score on 189 for 6 from 41.3 overs.
