Ginettas roar at Brands Hatch

Following lengthy summer breaks for both championships, the Ginetta GT Academy and Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge returned to action for the penultimate event of their 2022 seasons at Brands Hatch.

On a weekend in which the Ginetta family joined the nation in paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, Marc Warren and Ravi Ramyead saw their season of dominance in the GT Academy rewarded with provisional title wins.

Two wins from three races in Kent for Warren were enough to provisionally confirm him as the GTA class champion with an event to spare – his third Ginetta title in his first three years of car-racing – while Ramyead sealed the rookie honours with a brilliant eighth victory of the campaign.

There were also standout moments over the weekend for Thomas Holland and Jon Kearney, who took their first GTA and rookie wins of the season respectively, while Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness capped off a memorable debut with a rookie victory.

Championship protagonists Harley Haughton, Will Jenkins and Mikey Doble took a crucial race win each during a thrilling weekend of racing to set up a blockbuster GT5 Challenge season finale next month.

Whilst six drivers prepare to head to Donington Park in contention for the Pro title, a further three will compete for Am class supremacy after Chris White and Bal Sidhu shared the spoils over the weekend.

The 2022 GT5 Challenge and GT Academy seasons come to an end at Donington Park next month (15/16 October). Prior to that the final two weekends for the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship take place at Silverstone (24/25 September) and Brands Hatch (08/09 October).
