James Brophy has become the first signing of the summer for Gillingham, in what could be a busy transfer window.

The promotion winning midfielder has signed a two year contract at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium, following his release by Cambridge United at the end of the season.
Brophy, who can play in midfield, on the wing or at wing-back, spent a number of years in non-league Football before making his professional debut for Swindon Town in August 2015, coming off the bench in a Carabao Cup tie against Exeter.
Last season he found the net five times and contributed with a further ten assists, something that manager Gareth Ainsworth will be hoping he can bring to his side next season.
Speaking about signing for the Gills, he said: “I am really excited and really happy. I had a really good conversation with Gareth [Ainsworth], I found him really relatable and genuine.
“I feel like I have got a lot of years left in me. I like to be positive on the pitch, I like to create goals and I think you are going to get someone that you know gives everything they can on the pitch.”
