Ex-F1 driver joins Miata Trophy grid

Ex-Formula One driver Martin Donnelly will be heading to Brands Hatch this weekend, as he hits the track in the Miata Trophy.

Donnelly will join the grid for the upcoming round at Brands on Saturday as part of the prestigious GT World Challenge Europe weekend.

A respected name in international motorsport, Donnelly brings a wealth of experience to the championship. Best known for his time in Formula 1 in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as well as a distinguished career in other formulae (including sports cars and historic racing), his presence adds further depth to an already competitive field.

Donnelly will be joining Paul O’Neill’s Project 29:7 Racing Team as part of a three car line-up, which includes the 2024 Miata Trophy Champion John Langridge and race winner/co Team Owner Alex Miller.

The GT World Challenge Europe event, staged on the extended Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit configuration, promises to be one of the highlights of the Miata Trophy calendar. The championship will be sharing the stage alongside some of the world’s leading GT teams and drivers, including motorsport legend Valentino Rossi.

Known for its emphasis on driver ability, Miata Trophy offers a unique challenge – even for seasoned professionals. Its racing is close and competitive, best demonstrated by both of the previous two races being decided by less than one second over the finish line.

Donnelly’s participation underlines the continuing appeal of the championship, which continues to attract drivers from diverse racing backgrounds.
