Dobriskey accuses rivals after failing to medal

Lisa Dobriskey has sensationally accused her 1500m rivals of being drug cheats after failing to get a medal at the Olympics.

Dobriskey, 28, has been outspoken on drugs in the past claiming that her event has been “tainted”.

And she lashed out again after she trailed home in 10th place in a race won by Turkey’s Asli Cakir Alptekin.

The Team GB star claimed: “I know I will get into trouble for saying this, but I don’t believe I am competing on a level playing field.”

Dobriskey finished in 4mins 13.02secs, while the race was won at a pedestrian pace by Alptekin who finished more than 20 seconds outside the world record.

The runner, from Ashford, admitted she was disappointed at not getting a medal even though she had been advised by doctors that just running could kill her.

She made a remarkable return to fitness after being diagnosed with potentially fatal blood clots on her lungs earlier this year and the athlete was warned off taking part in the Olympics.

Dobriskey, who ran out of steam in the final lap despite the slow pace, said: “I left myself with far too much work to do. I went into the race with confidence, it was a tough ask to get a medal but I am very disappointed.”
