Corinthian 3-0 Sporting Khalsa
Corinthian 3-0 Sporting Khalsa

Corinthian created history by beating Sporting Khalsa to reach the last eight for the first time.

Wembley is now just around the corner after this comprehensive victory. This was also Sporting Khalsa’s first defeat since the 21st December and now Corinthian will huddle around the table on Monday waiting to discover who they will play next.

The game started with Corinthian having the first chance of the game in the fifth minute when Josh Stirman was put through on goal but pulled his shot wide from 20 yards.

Four minutes later another chance came when a ball out of defence found Luke Tanner, he let fly from 30 yards but saw his effort whistle past the post.

However Corinthian were not to be denied and they took the lead on the quarter hour mark when a corner to the near post was headed in by Alexander Jack Billings. Three minutes later Billings nearly doubled the lead when his shot from 20 yards was pushed around the post for a corner by Arnold.

Sporting Khalsa had their first shot in anger in the 32nd minute when Jake Gosling saw his 20 yard effort easily saved by Aiden Prall but the half ended with Corinthian in a deserved lead.

The second half started with Khalsa on the front foot but without really causing any problems. Corinthian were to punish them for that when they doubled their lead in the 58th minute.

Jack Mahoney tried his luck from distance but Arnold could only push it out as far as Oscar Housego who stabbed home from 5 yards.

Twenty minutes from time Corinthian scored their third to put the result out of Khalsa’s reach, when Stirman crossed low to Tanner whose first time shot was saved by Arnold but came back out to him and he shot home from 6 yards.

In the 79th minute Khalsa nearly got a consolation goal when a strike was cleared off the line. However Corinthian could and maybe should have made it four when a free kick into the area found A J Billings and his shot beat Arnold but not the post as it rolled across the area.

Four minutes later and another glorious chance came when substitute Frankie Morgan nearly scored with his first touch but his goalbound effort was cleared. The final whistle went & wild celebrations came from the men in hoops as they fully deserved this victory.

As it was Corinthian didn’t need another goal to add gloss to the storyline and they will await Monday’s draw to see where this FA Vase run takes them next.
