New Gillingham midfielder James Brophy has been talking to KSN this week after being nominated for September’s League Two “Player of the Month” in his first weeks as a member of Gareth Ainsworth’s squad.

Speaking to us ahead of another long trip at the weekend to face Rotherham United in South Yorkshire, Brophy said, “It’s a nice recognition to receive, especially whilst you are still settling into a new Club,” a proud midfielder told us.
“It’s a nice feeling; especially at a new Club; it’s good to do it at a new club especially when you are trying to impress; now people around you are making first impressions which in football always count and are very important.”
“I think that in a team game, individuals maybe sometimes don’t get a look in as the priority is the team and it should and I think it does show that if you are really showing yourself completely and standing out, the side isn’t doing at all well.”
“It was a nice feeling to be nominated, but one taken always with a pinch of salt.”
“Three goals in a month for me is amazing – don’t unusually get that many!” Brophy joked, “It was a good number and the goals themselves I’m very pleased with.”
“More importantly for the team we had a good month too where we showed more positives than negatives and have put ourselves in a position where we can attack the top end of the League!”
“There have been a lot of players hit by injuries since the start of the season and sometimes that makes it generally hard to find any rhythm, but I am glad to say that it feels like we have.”
“We have obviously missed one or two of the boys as they have had to miss games but I think generally the gelling has been good and coming together especially recently and I think we are beginning to understand what makes us look good, what good looks for us.”
