Blog: Running helps after cancer

In Nov 2017 I was hit with the diagnosis of breast cancer, my world turned upside down with hospital appointments, operations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, during this I managed the odd keep fit class.

On returning to work in 2018 I met a lady who put me forward to join the Team Phoenix Foundation, after much thought I decided to sign up but nearly died when I realised what I’d agreed to.

Suddenly I was at training sessions for running, well I’d never been able to run so was really worried but after a few sessions I realised I could run and actually enjoyed it.

The best thing of getting cancer was meeting the TP ladies, and I’ve now got lifelong friends, we still train and do events and parkruns together.

I’ve now become a mentor for the new TP 2019 team as I want to give back to allow more Ladies this fantastic opportunity.

Running now is a joy and helps to keep me fit whilst giving me time to enjoy the social side at events.
