Tom Barley got to grips with Brands Hatch GP circuit last weekend in the VW Cup and enjoyed every minute of the racing.VWCup03

Having qualified in 11th place for race one on Saturday, he was to finish in 11th place but it didn’t tell the whole story of the race. He was to go even better on Sunday as he broke into the top ten finishing seventh.

Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News, who backed him again at Brands Hatch, Tom said: “I am really happy with that with 32 cars I think it was on the grid, to finish up in the top ten I am really happy with that.

“I feel in the second race that I definitely had the pace, I think I was up to seventh by the second corner at Druids and unfortunately I had to then avoid my teammate and that put me down the order a bit, certainly early on in the race while my tyres were good I definitely had the pace.”

That first race of the weekend saw Tom involved in some close and competitive racing and he enjoyed every moment of the twenty minute race.

He added: “That is the thing with this championship you are never short of a battle or two and it was a lot of fun race one. I really did want a better result than that, so I am really happy with my result from race two.

“It was a decent weekend from me and I really appreciate the support from Kent Sports News, it is great to have you on the car and get some good pictures. It was fantastic and what a pleasant day it was to go racing.”VWCup05

There is only one round of the season left to go at Donington Park but Tom won’t be on track as he will be in Spa taking part in a six hour endurance race, something that he has always wanted to do.

He said: “I won’t be there unfortunately, I am sacrificing it to be part of a six hour endurance race out in Spa, which is where I will be instead, so this is it for me for the VW Cup for the year.

“It is a different kettle of fish, I have got to do a two hour stint but it will be a lot of fun and fingers crossed we get weather like we did today and it will be a pretty special race.”

That will leave Tom with some decisions to make over the closed season as the Team HARD racer decides what he wants to race next season.

He added: “I have lots to think about over the winter for lots of exciting opportunities I have got next year. Fingers crossed I can continue getting support from our current sponsors like IG.com and we can go racing next year and keep promoting the brand.”
