Yeovil Town 3-1 Welling United

Welling United’s F.A Trophy run was ended with defeat at Yeovil Town.

Courtney Duffus scored a brace either side of Chris Dagnall’s goal and Rob Swaine’s first Welling goal was too little too late.

Visiting the team in second place in the National League was always going to be a tough task and Yeovil ran out worthy victors.

From the opening minutes, Welling were forced to defend and Dan Wilks made a great early save when tipping James Tilley’s drive onto the bar and over. Tom Bradbury then headed wide when well placed.

Chris Dagnell broke through but Ejiro Okosieme got back to make an outstanding last gasp tackle then Wilks made a double save from Bradbury and Albi Skendi. Soon after Wilks parried out a corner but Matthew Worthington skied his first time shot.

Okosieme and Wilks then combined to force Dagnall into shooting wide before Yeovil broke the deadlock. Remeao Hutton’s cross evaded Wilks and Swaine and flew into the net off a surprised Duffus.

Skendi had a shot beaten out by Wilks before Welling finally caused Yeovil to defend. Bradley Goldberg looked through but Gabriel Osho recovered well to stop him getting a shot away then Cook shot well off target after Goldberg set him up.

Having finished the first half positively, Welling went further behind within two minutes of the restart when Dagnall headed home from a Lawson D’Ath corner.

Six minutes later, Yeovil put the game beyond doubt when Duffus burst through and finished with aplomb.

Stuart Nelson was finally called upon to make a great save from former Glover Korrey Henry then substitute Nathan Green had a shot blocked in the six yard box.

Wilks made another excellent save before Tilley missed a number of chances.

Four minutes remained when Welling pulled one back. Theo Widdrington delivered a free kick and Swaine rose at the far post to power his header home.

Moments later, Welling might have reduced the arrears further when Sanchez Ming burst down the wing and got to the bye-line but Nelson did well to cut out his low cross.

That proved to be Welling’s last chance and Skandi could have made it worse for them in injury time but he headed over.
