Yardy to leave Kent for Sussex

Mike Yardy will be leaving Kent Cricket to take up the position of Academy Director at Sussex Cricket.

Yardy joined the Club as a specialist Batting Coach in 2020, after previously holding the same position at Hove and was a part of the Kent coaching staff that oversaw the Spitfires’ 2021 Vitality Blast win at Edgbaston on 18 September.

He will now re-join Sussex in a new role, overseeing their Academy and Pathway.

On his time at Canterbury, Yardy said: “I’ve massively enjoyed my two seasons at Kent, which is a special club with a special group of players.

“I’ve made some great friends there and it was great to be part of the Spitfires’ success last season, more of which I’m sure will follow.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “We are sorry to see ‘Yards’ leave the Club. Along with Matt Walker and Simon Cook, Mike has done a fantastic job over the past two seasons to help improve our players and was a significant contributor to the Club winning a trophy for the first time in 14 years.

“We wish him nothing but the best in his new role at Sussex and he will always be welcome back at The Spitfire Ground.”
