Wrexham v Welling United preview

Lifted by their midweek victory, the Welling United team travels to Wrexham on Saturday looking to build upon their success.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Although they have performed well in most of their games in spells, they played some excellent football in the second half against Braintree Town on Tuesday night and thoroughly deserved their victory.

Having gone in one down at half time, Braintree probably expected Welling to launch the ball towards their big forwards and try and force the game. Instead they came out and played some slick fast paced passing through midfield.

There was also a demonstration of just how good the team spirit is by the mass mobbing of Chris Bush when he equalised. When Jamie Day recruits, he looks for talented players who fit into the team ethos.

When visiting Wrexham on Saturday, the Wings will come up against Blaine Hudson, a player who was a very good team man at Welling when on a season long loan from Cambridge United last term. He appears to have fitted in well in North Wales and has already supplemented some good defensive performances with a couple of goals. His duel with Tobi Sho-Silva could be fascinating.

Three of Wrexham’s four victories so far have come away from home and their only victory at the Racecourse Ground was a one-nil victory over Nuneaton Town. They have dangerous players in attack with Louis Moult having already notched four times this season whilst Connor Jennings impressed when on loan at Macclesfield Town last term.

When the two teams met on the opening game of the 2013-14 campaign, the Dragons won 2-1. Joe Clarke gave the hosts an early lead but Joe Healy equalised with a flying header just before the break. It looked as though the Wings were going to start their first year back in the top flight of non league football with an impressive point until substitute Rob Ogleby scored the winner with seven minutes remaining.

Healy and Kieron St. Aimie both hope to be in contention again following injury, and Day could have some tough decisions to make when deciding on his starting eleven.
