Wrexham v Bromley preview

After the disappointment of Tuesday night’s derby defeat to Sutton Utd, managerless Bromley look to bounce back from their first loss in seven with a tough trip to North Wales to face high flying Wrexham in the National League.

Bromley lost 3-1 at home to league leaders Sutton conceding an early goal at the start of both halves, with Jack Bridge scoring a late consolation goal in what proved to be Neil Smith’s last game as first team manager.

The Ravens were without the injured centre back pairing of Jack Holland & Byron Webster, plus midfielder Billy Bingham.

The Ravens currently sit seventh in the table with 44 points from 29 league matches played in the tightly packed area around the play off places, with only six points separating fifth from eleventh place.

Wrexham are fifth in the table with 47 points from 29 National League games, The Red Dragons drew 2-2 at home to Eastleigh last midweek, but haven’t played since. Dean Keates’ side are on an unbeaten run of five games which has kept them in the play off places and in contention to finally make a return to the Football League after 12 years away.

When the teams met at Hayes Lane in November it ended in a 1-1 draw with Michael Cheek putting Bromley in front before Adi Yussuf equalised in the second half for Wrexham.

The game is probably most remembered for a bad injury to Red Dragons Keeper Robert Lainton, which say play delayed by 25 minutes. Thankfully Lainton is now back fit and in the playing squad again.

It’s been an eventful season at The Racecourse Ground with high profile new owners taking over in the shape of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney offering a promotion bonus to the squad.

Kwame Thomas is Wrexham’s top scorer so far this campaign with nine goals, but they have also brought in Dior Angus who was part of Barrow’s promotion winning side last season.

Prior to his dismissal, Smith said he was hugely disappointed with the team’s performance on Tuesday night, and was be looking at who was available for Bromley as the busy fixtures schedule had taken its toll on his pool of players.

Whoever takes charge now will be hoping that at least one of the injured centre backs is in contention in time for Saturday and for a positive response from the team.

With both teams looking to keep in touch with the play off places this looks set to be another close game, one that will possibly set them up for the final two months of the season, with a third of the matches remaining and all to play for.

The game is to be played behind closed doors due to Covid 19 restrictions, but supporters can live stream the game from the official Wrexham FC website for £10.
