Wrexham 2-1 Welling United

It was tough on Welling United to have come away empty handed from their visit to Wrexham after a highly contentious red card.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

After Wrexham had enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, Welling worked their way into the game and were good value for their half time lead.

Wes York looked a danger for Wrexham and a good early run ended with a twenty yard shot that flew wide.

He then shot well over from distance as Welling half cleared before a spell in which neither team was able to carve out an opening.

The absence of Sam Corne and Jamie Day meant that the Wings player manager had to tinker with his squad and Zach Fagan was pushed into midfield.

Following Jon Nouble’s first harsh caution, Fagan showed his attacking instincts by playing Harry Beautyman away and the Wings’ leading scorer’s chipped cross was tipped away by Dan Bucmann and scrambled out by Neil Ashton.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Beautyman gave Welling a deserved lead in the 32nd minute but the credit should go to Tobi Sho-Silva who harried the defenders into an error before squaring perfectly.

Tyrone Marsh was just off target and Beautyman was thwarted by Buchanan as Welling finished the half strongly although Henly had to keep alert to save from York in injury time.

Elliott Durrell shot wide when well placed early in the second half but Welling were soon looking threatening again and Tyrone Marsh, having received a good ball from Jake Gallagher, shot powerfully but directly at Dan Bachmann.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Referee Paul Rees then made the decision that changed the game. Nouble made, what appeared to be, a good clean tackle but Mr Rees deemed otherwise and showed the on-loan a second yellow card.

Jamie Day responded by replacing Marsh and Wrexham took off centre half Blaine Hudson and replaced him with Theo Bailey-Jones.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Having kept the hosts out for over twenty minutes without too much alarm, it all went wrong for the Welling team with seven minutes remaining. Louis Moult levelled from close range, then two minutes later Joe Clarke’s shot took an enormous deflection that gave Henly no chance.

Deflated Welling might have conceded again in injury time but Henly saved Andy Bishop’s header.
