Wrexham 2-1 Bromley
Wrexham 2-1 Bromley

Bromley came away from their trip to second place Wrexham with no points to show for what was a supreme effort against a side that had won all of their home National League games so far this season and they certainly were on the rough end of the officiating throughout the match.

Andy Woodman made two changes to the starting line up with Michael Cheek and Omar Sowunmi coming in for the injured Adam Marriott and Harry Forster who was put on the bench.

In the pre-match interview he promised his side would be ugly and hard to beat, which they proved to be on a very heaving pitch.

Lining up 5-3-2 The Ravens started the game well, after Kellen Fisher was booked for an early challenge on McFadzean they went on to put the home side under pressure.

Louis Dennis had a shot saved by Howard and from the resulting corner Sowunmi had his short torn from him by Hayden while challenging for a header, but Referee Mr Smith failed to take any action.

With Bromley still pressing, Corey Whitely had a curling effort from range saved and Cheek had a shot blocked by Tozer after a defensive error set him up.

With the home side starting to look frustrated, they finally had an attacking spell, Palmer firing over from a Tozer long throw and after Byron Webster had been booked for a foul on Palmer, Mullin had a shot saved by Reice Charles-Cook at his near post.

It was then that The Ravens struck, Louis Dennis creating space in the area before his cross was deflected into the path of Whitely who side footed the ball home into the far corner of the net to put them 1-0 up on 32 minutes.

With the game now wide open Hayden had a header tipped over by Charles-Cook from along throw and from the corner, Wrexham were awarded a penalty when Cheek was judged to have used a high boot to clear the ball as Tunnicliffe tried to head the ball while getting up off the floor.

Mullin made no mistake from the spot, blasting the ball home to equalise just before the break. Charles-Cook being booked for holding on to the ball following the goal.

The second half started quietly with the play very even going all the way into the hour mark, then Woodman opted to take off Dennis for Ben Krauhaus and change to a 5-4-1 formation.

With the home side slowly building momentum they eventually went in front on 73 minutes when a half cleared cross came out to James Jones and his shot from 20yards out deflected off Sowunmi wrong footing Charles-Cook and skidding into the net for 2-1.

Wrexham pressed from there and had a series of corners and long throws into the box. Harry Forster came on for Bromley and immediately gave The Ravens another attacking option.

They had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Krauhaus went down in the area under the challenge of Young and Forster was then brought down on the edge of the box by Young for a free kick.

Besart Topalloj’s free kick was eventually cleared. With play wide open again Dalby & Palmer had shots saved by Charles-Cook and at the other end Callum Reynolds headed a free kick across goal with the ball just evading Cheek at the far post.

Late on The Red Dragons ran the clock down by keeping the ball in the corner, which was testament to just how hard Bromley had tested them.

Bromley now have a home game with Yeovil Town on Saturday as they look to keep in touch with the National League play off places.
