Worst weekend for Dixon
Worst weekend for Dixon

The ‘Home of British Motorsport’ presented Jake Dixon with what was his worst weekend of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship weekend.Jake Dixon - Assen 2 - Johnny Wills

The promising young rider from Dover was troubled all weekend by technical problems on his Doodson Appleyard Macadam Yamaha and he was unable to start either of the two races, which was gutting for him giving such an impressive qualifying performance.

Sadly the problems have troubled the team since early August and despite valiant efforts to try and fix, solve and rectify the issues, this weekend it was to no avail. After a couple of issues on Friday the weather played into Jake’s favour on Saturday for qualifying and he put the Yamaha on the front row in second position for the race that afternoon. Jake was only able to make the warm up lap when the bike had an engine problem and forced him to retire.

Still not discouraged Jake kept his hopes up for race two on Sunday but the electrical gremlin that has been intermittent on the bike since Thruxton reappeared that morning and this time the mechanics were unable to solve the problem and therefore he was pulled from the race.

Reflecting on a difficult weekend, Jake said: “It’s been hugely disappointing this season to have suffered with the amount of bad luck that we have but this weekend we got a double dose of it. It is a real shame as once I qualified on the front row I felt like I could run a good pace up at the front of the field. It just wasn’t meant to be and seems to be the way my season has gone recently.

“I know the team worked hard to try and sort everything out for me and appreciate the time they once again put in trying to sort it but they couldn’t. I just want to get back out there racing and finish with some good results, I’m sorry to my sponsors and fans, as I’ve not been able to put on a show this weekend and represent them but thank them for continuing to stand by me through what has been a tough few months.”

The season now moves on to Jake’s home track of Brands Hatch and he will be hoping to put on a show for his friends and family at the final round of the season.
