Workington v Bromley preview

Bromley travel up to Cumbria on Saturday to play Workington in the last sixteen of the FA Trophy knowing that a win will not only take them to the quarter finals, but will make club history in this competition as The Ravens have never progressed past the third round.

Former Football League club Workington currently play in the Northern Premier League, sitting just two places outside the play off spots having taken 46 points from 29 games played.

Last time out The Reds lost 4-1 away at Sutton Coldfield Town, and they have only won once in 2018, but that was over National League South team Weston Super Mare in a trophy replay at Borough Park.

Workington have seen off Witton Albion 4-0, Chasetown 3-1, Glossop North End 5-0 in a replay and then National League Hartlepool Utd 1-0 before their replay win over Weston last month secured this tie. Their scheduled league Cup game with Marine at Borough Park on Tuesday was postponed.

Bromley are seventh in the National League with 50 points from 31 matches played and last Saturday they put on a stylish display defeating Halifax Town 3-0 at Hayes Lane. Neil Smith’s side have lost only once in five starts this year scoring fifteen goals in the process and conceding only four.

Although there is a gap of two divisions between the teams this will be another tough test for Bromley and they will be hoping to rekindle the spirit that has seen them win away at Hartley Wintney and Blyth Spartans to reach this stage.
