Woodward: ‘We were comfortable and had the better chances’

Arguably one of the weekend’s best results for any Kent side saw SCEFL side Erith Town get a draw at fancied Isthmian South East side Burgess Hill Town and earn a replay at the Stanmore Stadium in Thamesmead this evening.

Ahead of Monday’s draw which sees the winners host Bognor Regis Town, boss Adam Woodward told KSN of his immense pride in his side’s performance and result, telling us, “I thought we were comfortable and had the better chances in the game, it was a positive result and they’ve got to come to us now and hopefully we’ll perform the same again!”

“I received a lot of congratulations on the text, but it’s only half the job done really as if we get beaten on Tuesday, Saturday’s result will be irreverent. It’s important that we go into the replay and try to compete and play as well as we did Saturday and get the job done!”

“They are a nice club and were really welcoming. Their management team were superb, we were brilliant for the first eight five minutes but for the last five minutes and added on time, we panicked and held on despite them missing a great chance right at the end. We missed two or three one-on-ones which has been the story of our season.”

“They had an off day and there’s an old cliché in football that if you have an off day and get away with it, they might consider tomorrow (Tuesday) is the chance to right a wrong and that’s up to us to stop them.”

“We’ve done a lot of work on our new home during the summer which is a credit to the committee and all behind the scenes who have been down there painting the fences, painting the goals, my management team included.

“We’ve decorated the changing rooms and tried to make it as homely as possible. It’s starting to feel like that, but our home form is important, and we’ve got to make sure that it quickly becomes a fortress.”

“If you ask them if they want to come to deepest darkest Thamesmead on a Tuesday night, I think many can guess the answer. They have to battle the M25 and the A2 on a Tuesday just to get here, so let’s hope they don’t have an enjoyable night.”

“We matched them on Saturday, I felt that we were the better side, we have to go into the game feeling positive and if we believe that we are a good side, and if the players believe, it could be a good night!”
