Woodman tipped to take over at Gills
Woodman tipped to take over at Gills

Bromley manager Andy Woodman has been installed as the new hot favourite to take over at Gillingham and a deal could be announced soon.

The Gills went into Saturday’s game with former manager Steve Lovell taking the reins at Priestfield, but despite taking a third minute lead through Robbie McKenzie, went on to lose 3-1 against Burton Albion.

Sitting deep in the relegation zone and with the trap door to League Two opening, whoever takes over now has just 21 games left to turn things round and Woodman is being widely tipped to be that man.

The former coach from Arsenal and Newcastle United has worked wonders since replacing Neil Smith at Bromley, someone else that was ironically tipped to take over at Gillingham.

Under Woodman’s stewardship, Bromley find themselves in a great position to climb out of the National League and into the Football League for the first time in their history.

On Saturday, Woodman oversaw a 2-0 win for Bromley in the FA Trophy at Aldershot Town and the club have been on the right path for the past few seasons, ironically under Steve Lovell, Neil Smith and now Woodman.

KSN understands Woodman is one of those that has been interviewed for the vacant Gillingham job and had been linked with a move to Hartlepool earlier in the season, however this time round, he is tempted by the prospect of managing in League One.

One stumbling block though is should Woodman leave Hayes Lane, compensation would need to be paid for his services and Ravens chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves is a shrewd businessman would want a decent fee for one of his prized assets.
