Manager Andy Woodman felt his Bromley side deserved to beat Chesterfield as he believed they were “by far the best team” in their goalless League Two draw at the SMH Group Stadium.

Substitute Nicke Kabamba had a great chance to win it for the visitors a minute from time when he took a penalty – awarded after Dylan Duffy handled the ball in the area – but goalkeeper Zach Hemming made a good save low to his left.

Chesterfield had a number of chances to score with substitute Freddie Ladapo clipping the outside of a post after seeing his initial effort saved.

Woodman said: “It’s a tough place to come, isn’t it? We’ve known that over the years. It’s a big club in this league.

“They’ve got riches that we can only dream of and I think they’ve signed six players in this window, so it’s always going to be tough, but I thought we were by far the best team out there today.

“The keeper has made a good save, but if he keeps going the other way, it’s a brilliant penalty.

“Nicke shouldn’t have his head down at all because we’ve been in debt to Nicke for getting us out of a few situations before, so that’s the joys of a striker.

“Credit to the keeper, he guessed the right way and made a good save. It was in the corner and he had to attack it on the chin.

“We should have had all the points, but we haven’t. We’ve got a clean sheet and we roll on again.

“I thought we were brilliant today. I thought we were solid. I thought some of our build-up play in the right areas was fantastic. We just couldn’t get the breakthrough today – and another day, we will.”

Despite the draw, The Ravens stay six points clear at the top of League Two after a great run in recent months.

Woodman’s side now entertain second placed Swindon Town at Hayes Lane on Saturday with Crewe Alexandra travelling south for the clash just three days later.

Bromley finish January with the local clash against Gillingham at MEMS Priestfield in what could be a vital game for both sides.
