Winning start for Ovenden

Tristan Ovenden got his 2015 Swift Rallycross campaign off to a winning start at Croft Circuit last weekend.British Rallycross.

The 2014 champion picked up where he left off last season with a near faultless display with victory in all three heats.

This earned him pole position for the A final, with the domination that found him on pole position it meant that he went off as favourite in the final. He wasn’t going to have it all his own way with an all Kent front row.

Ovenden was joined by Darren Scott from Sittingbourne and Rob Maynard from Deal on the front row, and both racers were determined to spoil the Canterbury race aces perfect opening weekend.

However, no one could beat Ovenden once he was the quickest off the line and into the lead from the first corner, it wouldn’t be a lead that he gave up, taken the victory six laps later.

It was the perfect start to 2015 scoring maximum championship points. Tristan will now look towards round 2 when the championship heads his home event at Lydden Hill in Kent returning to its traditional Easter Monday slot.British Rallycross.

Speaking about his great start to the season, Tristan said: “The anticipation of a new season, especially this year, with lots of new drivers makes the opening round an exciting one and carrying the number ‘1’ on the Goody Demolition Swift created even more expectation!”

“I was very pleased to go through the meeting finding out that we were still very competitive. The car felt good all day and we managed to stay incident free to post the fastest times in all 3 heats. In the final we just needed a good start and I knew we’d do well.

“The start was good and I led through the first corner. I did make a mistake on lap three which allowed the field to close up on me slightly but I then put three good laps together to take the win. I couldn’t be more delighted.”
