Williams keen to face Wrexham

Gillingham welcome Wrexham to Priestfield at the weekend, and midfielder Jonny Williams can’t wait to lock horns with his compatriots.

For Williams, 3:00pm on Saturday can’t come soon enough as he told KSN at this week’s Priestfield briefing.

“It’s getting down towards crunch time in the season with thirteen games left and we need to win as many as possible!” the Welsh midfielder told us.

“We’ve got a real chance of getting in the Play Offs and this week, we’re playing a team pushing for automatic promotion, so we’re really looking forward to it, should be a great atmosphere and when the fans are behind us, it really does help.”

“Fair play to what they have achieved last year where they got over one hundred points – they have got some really good players, but then so have we!”

“Hopefully, we will be able to put in a performance and get the three points. We want to win more games and win every home game we play.”

“We are never happy with a point at home – coming off on Tuesday, I know that we got a point against the League leaders (Stockport), but there wasn’t much in the game was there?”

“It was a game of two good defences – it was not a great game to play in, so I do not think it would have been a good game to watch either. It is a point against the top of the League, so we must see it as a point gained…”

“Saturday – we need to be on the front foot and give them something to worry about. We need to bring intensity as we have our own responsibility to get the fans on our side as players and get them going as well because we need them as much as they need us.”

“We need to start the game on the front foot with intensity like we have done in some games at home, and we need to do that more.”

“League Two is a really tough League and I think it comes down to our consistency and we really have not been consistent enough!”

“We would have loved to have won at Newport then the point on Tuesday is not a “bad” point! But now we need to win on Saturday really to stay in the middle of the Play Off hunt and we all know how tight it is looking for the fifth, sixth, seventh places…”

“We still have to play Barrow twice and teams above us and overall, this year we have been good against them, so we will be looking to win those games.”

“We have come up against some good outfits recently and football teams who have made it difficult for us to get on the front foot.”

“We have to respect Wrexham as they are a very good outfit with some very good players in this League. But I believe the same about us,” Williams added continuing, “It should be a good game and I’m hoping that it’ll be a better game than Tuesday anyway!”

“When this place is rocking it gives the players a huge boost – we have a responsibility to give the fans something to cheer about and play with intensity, drive and passion which I’m sure we will as when I Iook at the changing room I see a squad who want to give everything and want to get promoted…”
