Whitstable Town 0-4 Folkestone Invicta
Whitstable Town 0-4 Folkestone Invicta

Folkestone stayed unbeaten with a clinical performance against their Kent coast rivals and also progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

Whitstable gave a brave performance but in the end class proved the winner and they can now get back to League action.

The first half saw Folkestone control the game and have most of the possession and after 53 seconds they nearly took the lead when a corner to the back post was retrieved by Ira Jackson and his low cross to the near post was flicked on by Jerson Dos Santos and went just past the far post.

In the 3rd minute Alfie Paxman received the ball from a throw in and he went forward cut inside and saw his shot go just past the post, three minutes later Sam Hasler on the left saw his hopeful cross beat Dan Eason but went just over the bar.

A minute later Jackson went on a mazy run but saw his shot saved by Eason. Whitstable had their first half chance in the 18th minute when a corner to the back post saw skipper Tom Bryant head just past the post from 6 yards.

Folkestone took a deserved lead in the 25th minute when a long ball to Jackson on the right wing saw him control it and then cut inside beating 3 defenders and then from 15 yards his curling effort hit the back of the net via the post.

In the 37th minute it was nearly two when Keiron McCann on the left cut inside and from 20 yards saw his shot tipped over the bar by Eason.

The half time whistle went & Folkestone would wonder how they were not further in front while Whitstable would be happy at only being one down.

The second half saw Whitstable come out with vigour and for the home supporters it looked better but in the 53rd minute Folkestone got their second when the ball was only half cleared and came down to Jackson & from 8 yards shot past Eason.

A minute later it was three when Scott Heard on his return to Whitstable 25 yards out threaded the ball through for Johan Ter Horst and from 10 yards he slipped the ball past Eason.

Whitstable’s players were now hoping to keep the score at three and in the 64th minute it nearly became four when a corner to the back post saw Matt Newman’s volley hit the cross bar.

Folkestone scored their fourth in the 81st minute with probably the goal of the game when McCann on the left wing cut inside and laid the ball into the path of Hasler and his bullet shot from 20 yards hit the back of the net leaving Eason grasping at thin air.

The final whistle went and the Folkestone supporters and players celebrated an emphatic win while the Whitstable supporters & players will lick their wounds and get back to League action.
