Welling Utd v Ebbsfleet Utd preview

After last week’s postponement, Welling United and Ebbsfleet United meet again to try and resolve the tie that neither club would have wanted.

FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

It would have been preferable if the game could have been settled before Jamie Day had taken over but a drawn first game put paid to that.

To make matters worse, on the following Monday, Ebbsfleet put in a seven day notice approach on caretaker manager Jamie Turner, expecting the outcome to be decided last Tuesday. Unfortunately, an electrical fault meant that the game could not take place.

Although Jody Brown was announced as new manager having resigned from his post at Grays Athletic on Saturday night, he will be taking a watching brief from the stand so the Welling team will be run by Jake Gallagher, who may select himself following suspension, and Loui Fazakerley who is out through a long term injury.

Day’sĀ  first game in charge of the Fleet was a huge disappointment as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to lowly Weston-super-Mare. He is likely to make a number of changes to allow him to have a look at those in the squad who did not participate.

Meanwhile, Welling marched on in their pursuit of mid-table security. Having withstood a lively Aldershot start, Welling settled down and went ahead just before the break. Kieron St. Aimie added a second soon after before the Shots pulled one back. The swift incisiveĀ  movement of the Wings attack proved too much for Aldershot and crafted a superb third goal finished by Marsh.

Marsh’s loan period is due to expire after the Trophy match however he has indicated that he would be keen to extend it so will look to perform well in front of the new manager.

Both teams will want to progress, but will have the busy festive season schedule in mind. However, with respective new managers to impress, players of both teams will want to show their value.
