Following their FA Cup exertions, Welling United return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Saturday when they host Wingate and Finchley.

It took Welling two matches to defeat Faversham Town, however, Wingate won’t come into the match any fresher as they also required a replay to progress.

Ryan Maxwell’s Welling team had to remain patient in their Tuesday evening match despite being much the better team. Demaray Anyadike gave them a half time lead but Tommy Fagg equalised in the second period. The Wings missed a number of chances but held their nerves and Ryan Kingsford converted a penalty in the last minute of stoppage time.

When Wingate won at Felixstowe and Walton United, they had five former Wings in their ranks and one of them, substitute Ashley Nzala, scored both goals in their two-nil victory.

In their six league matches so far, Welling have twelve points from four wins and two defeats. They have a one hundred percent record at home and have kept three clean sheets in their three home league matches. Wingate have eight points from two wins two draws and two defeats, Away from home, they lost two-nil at Carshalton Athletic, drew two-two at AFC Whyteleafe and won three-two at. Chatham Town.

Back in January Welling hosted Wingate and claimed a vital three points. The only goal came just after the hour mark when Jamie Reynolds recycled a corner and crossed to Lekan Majoyegbe and his instinctive volley flew home.

Both Troy Howard and Louis Ramsay returned from injury in Welling’s FA Cup matches. Lekan Majoyegbe will return from suspension and Zak O’Keefe will also be permitted to play so Maxwell should have a full squad from which to select as long as nobody has a reaction from Tuesday’s match.
