Welling United vs Havant & Waterlooville preview

Six points and two clean sheets have helped Welling United climb away from the relegation zone ahead of their game with promotion chasing Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday.

Not helped by some awful weather conditions, the last two games have not been classics, but Welling have had enough to win both games.

Brad Quinton made two changes from the team that beat Dulwich Hamlet when they played Chippenham with Rob Swaine coming back for the injured Romoney Crichlow-Noble and Bradley Rolt replacing Philip Roberts following a week of illness.

Crichlow-Noble was due to have surgery on his fractured cheekbone this week and then a face mask fitted so Quinton will hope to have him back sooner than later however Swaine’s performance against Chippenham after a six week break meant that he had a more than able replacement. Unsurprisingly, he tired towards the end but training this week will help him build up his stamina.

Whilst Welling will go into the game on the back of two night’s of training, Havant had a game on Wednesday at home to Slough Town, winning one-nil, to bounce back from their defeat at home to St. Albans City last Saturday. That took them back into third place, seven points behind league leaders Wealsdstone.

Away from home, Havant’s form has been far better than at home and they are yet to lose on the road. They have won nine and drawn six and their five defeats have all been at West Leigh Park. There is one former Wing in the Hawks squad, Danny Kedwell, but he was sent off against St Albans so unless Havant have mounted an appeal, and been successful, he will have to sit the game out.

When the two teams met on the opening day of the season, the spoils were shared. Roarie Deacon put Havant ahead after twelve minutes but Adam Coombes levelled for the Wings six minutes before the break. There was no further scoring and Welling claimed a well deserved point.
