After a hard fought FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie on Saturday Welling United host Faversham Town in the replay at the Anthony Martin Community Stadium.

Although both teams will want to progress to a Second Qualifying Round match at Dulwich Hamlet, their respective leagues are their priorities. Faversham have already played four games in the world’s most famous domestic club knock out competition. They started with a four-two victory against Corinthian Casuals before they visited Bedfont, drew nil-nil, then won the replay at home four-nil. Saturday, was Welling’s opening game in the tournament.

Ryan Maxwell’s Wings could barely have started better when going ahead in the second minute. Kaan Bennett got clear down the right and slid it across for Nahum Melvin-Lambert to tuck home. There were few other clear cut chances until Bennett hit the post in the second half. As the clock ran down, Faversham levelled through an excellent strike by Kieron Campbell before Steve Watt’s side had a chance to win it when Josh Ajayi fired over deep into stoppage time.

Both managers made their full quota of five substitutions and will be waiting anxiously to see whether those who took knocks have recovered before naming their teams.

Something will have to give as Faversham are still unbeaten in all competitions while Welling have a one hundred percent home record but if it’s another tight encounter, it could take extra time and penalties to decide it.
