Welling United vs Cheshunt – Preview

Matches are coming thick and fast for Welling United at present and they are back in action with a floodlit Isthmian League Premier Division encounter with Chesham on Tuesday evening.

Despite conceding their first home league goal this season on Saturday, the Wings were dominant against Wingate and Finchley, winning four-one. Zak O’Keefe put them ahead in the first half before Scott Kashket levelled. Jamie Reynolds, Ryan Kingsford and Kaan Bennett scored in the second period as they extended their unbeaten home record that stretches back to the end of February. The victory eased them up into second place in the table with fifteen points from seven matches.

Their Tuesday night visitors have had a slower start to the season and are just outside the bottom four having picked up five points from their seven matches thus far. They were beaten three-nil by Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, however, most of their games have been tight affairs as they have drawn five times.

When the two teams met at Park View Road last season, the Wings left it late before claiming the three points. Sonny Black put the Wings ahead in the first half but Sam Granville levelled approaching the midway point of the second period. There were four minutes remaining when Troy Howard put the Wings back ahead and Femi Akinwande ensured victory when he netted in the seventh minute of stoppage time

Ryan Maxwell was without Ade Azeez and Louis Ramsey on Saturday but hopes that they will both be available for the Cheshunt encounter. Nahum Melvin-Lambert had to be substituted against Wingate and Finchley with a touch of flu, however, none of the other players substituted went off for injuries so the Welling manager should have almost a good squad from which to select.
