Welling United v Slough Town preview

Both Welling United and Slough Town will be looking to bounce back from defeats when they meet in a Vanarama National League South fixture on Tuesday evening.

Warren Feeney’s Welling’s team had a free afternoon on Saturday due to their scheduled opponents being involved in the F.A. Cup. That meant that they were unable to try and get the disappointment of their defeat at Dartford, last Tuesday, out of their system.

Slough slumped to a three-one defeat at home to St. Albans City on Saturday so they will also be looking to get their season back on track.

All the scoring in that match was in the second half with Arnold Matshazi equalising before the Saints went on to claim the three points.

Neither team are in the best of form with the Rebels only having claimed one point in their last six games while Welling have won once in eight league games.

Away from home, Slough have won two, drawn one and lost three, their victories coming at Dulwich Hamlet and Chippenham Town.

In the corresponding game last season, the points were shared in a two all draw. Aaron Kuhl scored for the visitors in the sixth minute, but Bradley Stevenson levelled for Welling in first half stoppage time.

Nine minutes after the break, Ben Allen put the Wings ahead, but Slough levelled through Ryan Bird two minutes from time.

Stefan Payne should be available for the Wings following the completion of his suspension but both Aaron Barnes and Miles Roberts may still be absent through injury.

Veteran striker Jay Simpson came on as a substitute for his debut at Dartford last week and he may also feature. Welling are only three points away from the play-offs so will be looking for the win that keeps them in contention.
