Welling United v Concord Rangers preview

On Saturday Welling United are back at home when they host Concord Rangers in a Vanarama National League South fixture.

Warren Feeney’s team are becoming draw specialists. They have gone five games without a win but have only lost three of their last ten. Goalscoring has become their main problem having scored just once in their last five matches, and five blanks in their last seven.

However, should they continue to play as they did in the second half in their goalless draw at Farnborough, they will soon be back on a winning run.

Their visitors on Saturday, Concord Rangers, are enduring a tough spell and have gone six league games without a victory with just one win since the beginning of December causing them to drop to the foot of the table.

Away from home they have won three, drawn three, and lost nine.

When Welling visited Concord in November, the spoils were shared in a one-one draw. Sid Nelson was dismissed early having been shown two yellow cards in quick succession however the Wings still went ahead through Taylor Maloney.

Two former Wings combined to bring the teams level. Mo Bettamer flicked d’Sean Theobalds cross into the path of Louis Ramsey who finished from close range.

Last season’s corresponding game at Park View Road, on August Bank Holiday Monday, finished in a two-one victory for the Wings.

Che Krabbendam opened the scoring in the tenth minute but when Bradley Pearce scored an own goal thirteen minutes from time, it looked like the teams would finish level.

Mason Saunders-Henry had other ideas, though, and scored the winner in stoppage time.

A mounting injury list means that it is difficult to know how Welling will line up. Christie Pattisson and Medy Elito were withdrawn with injuries last Saturday at Hungerford Town, and both Ade Azeez and Antony Papadopoulos had to be replaced at Farnborough on Tuesday.

George Alexander missed that game through illness but Feeney will hope to have him available again against Concord.
