Welling United v Chippenham Town – Preview

Following an interesting week, Welling United entertain Chippenham Town in a Vanarama National League South game if conditions allow.

Last Saturday Welling visited Billericay Town. The first half was pretty even but the hosts scored immediately after the break and once they had added a second, there was no way back for the Wings.

Then on Tuesday they hosted a more experienced than expected Leyton Orient side in the London Senior Cup. Jack Barham put Welling ahead with a superb finish in the first half and Danny Mills made it two after the break. Although the Os pulled one back with ten minutes remaining it proved to be a mere consolation.

Montel Agyemang and Mekhi McLeod both started and impressed so Welling manager Steve King will have some interesting selection choices.

Saturday’s visitors, Chippenham Town are just three points behind the Wings and will be looking to draw level. However their away form is nothing spectacular having won four, drawn three and lost seven.

Back in August, Welling visited Wiltshire and put in an excellent performance winning four-one. Brendan Kiernan opened the scoring for the Wings in the twelfth minute but Karnell Chambers levelled soon after.

Bradley Goldberg restored Welling’s lead from the penalty spot after Danny Mills had been brought down in the area and they added a third through Thierry Audel just before half time. Kiernan added a fourth in the second half as Welling cruised to victory.

When the two teams met at Park View Road last season, Welling enjoyed an even more comfortable victory. Joe Healy put Welling ahead and Tom Bradbrook increased their lead four minutes before the break. Four minutes after the break Bradbrook scored again and Goldberg completed the scoring with ten minutes remaining.

Welling will be looking for three points again on Saturday to ensure they remain in the play-off zone.
