Welling United 7-0 Chipstead
Welling United 7-0 Chipstead

Any hopes that Chipstead had of causing an F.A. Cup shock at Welling United were unfounded as the Wings cruised to victory.

Adam Coombes and Bradley Goldberg each notched a brace as Welling swamped their visitors and could have scored more.

Goals at the start of each half certainly helped but it was one way stuff and Welling cruised into Monday’s third qualifying round draw.

Coombes might have scored in the first minute but his header from Joe Anderson’s cross thudded back off the post but Chipstead’s escape was short lived. There were four minutes on the clock when Coombes received Gavin McCallum’s pass and thumped it into the bottom corner.

Tom Collins had a chance to level but headed wide following excellent work by former Wing Malachi Hudson before Welling were back on the attack.

Anthony Cook crossed but Coombes headed wide then the Welling striker was thwarted by a brave block by Josh Gallagher.

Ejiro Okosieme’s header went over then Oliver Pain made a good save from Goldberg before Welling went two ahead. Danny Waldren marked his second Welling debut with a close range header from Cook’s corner.

Okosieme headed wide from Theo Widdrington’s cross then Goldberg had a shot deflected wide.

As Welling’s dominance continued Coombes headed wide from another Cook corner before he added his second goal and Welling’s third. Widdrington’s attempted shot went straight to him and he controlled before firing home.

Cook had a shot saved comfortably by Pain before firing a free kick well off target.

At the interval, Chipstead manager Rob Kember made a double change but neither substitutes had touched the ball before Welling added a fourth. Pain’s clearance was unconvincing and fell nicely for Cook and he fired home from the edge of the penalty.

Hudson had a low drive fly just wide of the post before Rob Swaine headed wide from a Cook corner.

Callum Hart had a shot blocked by Okosieme before Chipstead, temporarily down to ten men while Aaron Miller was being patched up, conceded again. Joshua Oyinsan was hauled down inside the penalty area and Goldberg converted from the spot, sending Pain the wrong way.

Oyinsan had a shot saved before Welling scored a sixth. Jack Jebb twisted and turned to make space for Aaron Cosgrave and he sent Goldberg away and he slotted home comfortably.

Jebb made it seven with one of his specials, a free kick curled into the top corner, to round off a convincing Welling victory.
