Charlie Vines’ second half hat-trick helped Cray Valley PM to come from behind to claim the scalp of Welling United in the London Senior Cup.Cray Valley

Although there are four steps difference between the two clubs, Welling only fielded one player with first team experience this season and the ‘boys versus men’ teams produced an intriguing encounter at Welling’s Park View Road.

An early Lewis Wood header home Harrisson Carnegi’s cross put the visitors ahead but Welling had a goal disallowed before equalising through a spectacular Josh Patrick 30 yarder.

The Welling midfielder came close to putting the Wings ahead but his first time effort from the edge of the penalty struck the base of the post.

Jack Taylor’s header was saved and Patrick shot wide before Josh Ekim sent Rob Sturgeon the wrong way from the spot to put Welling ahead following a foul on Daniel Oka.

Oka increased Welling’s lead when finishing after Sturgeon parried McKenzie’s shot.

Sam Corne cleared Steve Springett’s header off the line before Joe Matthews’ header was disallowed.

Joel Harrington made an early second half save from Cray Valley’s half time substitute before Patrick’s persistence resulted in his second goal to put Welling 4-1 ahead.

Before Welling had settled, Springett pulled one back from Mike McKenna’s corner the Adam Gross hit the post from close range following a deep cross.

Vines then took over and three close range finishes taught the young Wings a lesson and the visitors claimed the victory.
