Bradley Goldberg’s first half hat-trick helped Welling to F.A. Cup victory over Tavistock A.F.C..

FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

His goals in the 16th, 34th and 39th minute put them on their way although Jack Crago pulled one back just before the interval. However they had two sent off in the second half and Josh Oyinsan took advantage with the final goal.

Unchanged from their victory at Hungerford seven days earlier, Welling hoped for a quick start but it was the visitors from the Toolstation Western League who mounted the first attack. Luke Brown had the shot but Dan Wilks made a comfortable save.

At the other end, Josh Oak made a straight-forward catch from Goldberg’s effort before Welling went ahead. Nathan Green played it through and Goldberg finished well.

Some supporters might have expected the floodgates to open but Welling struggled to move the ball around quickly enough against a rugged visiting team and the best that they could manage was a forty-five yard effort that sailed just wide.

Ben Cross headed wide for Tavistock before Goldberg scored his second. Green again played him through and he moved it into space before firing home.

Five minutes later, he completed his hat-trick when Welling moved it across the face of the area for Goldberg to slide home.

However, two minutes before the break, the Lambs got back into the game when Crago cut in from the left wing and fired inside the far post.

Any hopes of an unlikely comeback were destroyed with an x rated challenge within a minute of the start of the second half. Cross flew in on Waldren with studs raised and the referee wasted no time in showing him a red card.

Oak made a great save from a Goldberg header before Widdrington and Adam Coombes both fired over.

If it was already a tall order for Tavistock before they suffered a further set back. Josh Robins appeared to have a rush of blood to the head and flew in out of control on Connor Dymond and he was also dismissed.

Mark Goldberg made a triple substitution and one of the replacements, Oyinsan, had the ball in the net with his first touch but was adjudged to have fouled his man.

He wasn’t to be denied though and after exchanging passes with Aaron Cosgrave, he fired home for his first Welling goal.

Jack Jebb met an Anthony Cook cross with a first time volley but Oak beat out his shot before Goldberg fired over an empty net after Oyinsan headed back Cosgrave’s cross.

Having used all their substitutes, Welling were reduced to ten men when Cosgrave suffered a hamstring injury but by then the game was as good as over.
