Welling United 4-1 Nuneaton Town
Welling United 4-1 Nuneaton Town

Anyone looking at the form book would have made Welling United their banker in the game against Nuneaton Town at Park View Road.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Coming into the game, Welling were unbeaten at home whilst Nuneaton had claimed just one point on the road. There have been many surprise results in the Vanarama Conference Premier this season but an accomplished Wings performance ensured there was to be no shock on this occasion.

Chris Bush was suspended following his midweek trial by TV and both Zach Fagan and Loui Fazakerley were unavailable following the game at Kiddeminster. Jonathan Henly was left out and replaced by Jamie Turner.

Tyrone Marsh came close early on but Reice Charles-Cook made a smart low save.

Connor Franklin shot wide for Nuneaton but Welling went ahead in the 18th minute. Harry Beautyman slung in a low free kick that beat everyone before sneaking in at the far post.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Four minutes later, Nuneaton drew level when Gareth Dean headed home Lee Fowler’s deep free kick for only their second goal on their travels this season.

Welling then laid siege to the Nuneaton goal. Jamal Fyfield, with head strapped to cover the stitches incurred in midweek, headed over from Beautyman’s corner.

Malachi Hudson and Beautyman were both thwarted by excellent defending by Dean before Aristide Bassele broke through just before the break. Charles-Cook charged out and clattered into the onrushing striker. The referee dismissed the goalkeeper and Nuneaton brought on James Hogarth-Wren for Adam Dawson.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Hogarth-Wren was left wrong footed when Beautyman’s free kick took a big deflection into the unguarded side of the goal.

Bassele had the last goal attempt of the first half and the first of the second period.

Another Beautyman free kick curled over and two low slanted Ben Jefford crosses just evaded strikers charging in, and also the far post.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Barney Williams put in a cross from the other wing that Beautyman met with a firm header that was well saved, then Bassele headed over from the subsequent corner.

Two Marsh goals in three minutes ensured a comfortable last fifteen minutes for the Wings. First, he fed on a perfect Beautyman cross to finish clinically then he exchanged passes with Hudson before firing across Hogarth-Wren’s goal.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Marsh and substitute Jon Nouble both netted but had their goals disallowed for offside. In between, Fyfield shot just wide after receiving Marsh’s return pass.

In the closing minutes, Beautyman came close to adding to the ten goals notched so far this season when dancing through the defence before clipping his effort against the post.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)
