Welling United fell to another home defeat as Luton Town celebrated their Skrill Premier Championship crown in party style.Welling United

Quade Taylor’s first time volley brought a save out of Mark Tyler as Welling started smartly, then former Wing Fraser Franks made a vital clearance from Loui Fazakerley’s near post cross.

Alex Wall, recalled from his loan spell at Dartford by the Hatters, smashed a free kick into the defensive wall before his follow up flew high and wide, landing in the garage car park forecourt on the opposite side of the road.

Mark Cullen shot wide of the Welling goal before Josh Wakefield did likewise at the other end.

Cullen broke the deadlock for Luton in the 28th minute when feeding on a through ball and slotting beyond Lee Butcher.

Andre Gray fired in a first time shot that was saved comfortably by Butcher then Ross Lafayette was crowded out by Steve McNulty at the other end before the break.

After a long range Fazakerley effort was claimed by Tyler, Luton upped the tempo and put Welling under pressure.

Butcher had to be out sharply as Gray burst through, before the Luton talisman screwed a fierce shot well wide of the near post.

A first time point blank shot brought a magnificent reaction save out of Butcher and the Welling custodian was soon in action again, getting down sharply to save from Gray.

Eventually the pressure told and when Gray was played through, he held off the challenge of Fazakerley before blasting home beyond Butcher.

There was no danger of Welling buckling, however, and Lafayette scored a contender for goal of the season with a curler into the top corner that gave Tyler no chance seven minutes later.

Joe Healy had a late daisy-cutter saved low just inside the post but Luton kept possession well and were untroubled again before their celebrations commenced.
