Welling United 1-2 Bromley
Welling United 1-2 Bromley

Two goals in the first eighteen minutes were enough to ensure victory for Bromley at Welling United in a pre season friendly.

Andy Woodman’s Bromley team could not have got off to a better start than going ahead with less than a minute on the board. Former Bromley crowd favourite Louis Dennis has returned to the club and his run and cross was headed home by Kwesi Appiah.

Dipo Akinyemi flashed over from twenty yards for Welling before Chris Bush fired wide at the other end. Lyle Della-Verde then collected a loose clearance from Bromley’s goalkeeper but had to twist and turn to create space allowing Forte to get back to save.

Kellen Fisher made it two-nil in the eighteenth minute when finishing at the far post after Bush’s long throw had been headed on by James Alabi.

Hussein Biller shot wide from well out for Welling before Akinyemi forced his way into a good position but Forte blocked his shot. Then, at the other end Sam Skeffington shot wide of the near post before, new Welling goalkeeper Tom Smith positioned himself well to beat out Toby Stevenson’s low drive.

Olu Durojaiye split Bromley’s defence with a great long pass to Della-Verde but he curled well off target. Della-Verde then delivered a corner that was flicked on by Kristian Campbell but just out of the reach of Aaron Barnes.

After the break, Forte did well to come out and clear as Brad Stevenson burst through after good work by Akinyemi before the Welling talisman had a header tipped over. From Della-Verde’s corner, Brad Pearce looped a header over.

Akinyemi again caused problems but two Bromley defenders got back and combined to block his shot, then Stevenson had another shot turned around by Forte.

There were twelve minutes remaining when Welling reduced the arrears with a deserved consolation goal. A trialist got to the bye-line and pulled it back for Stefan Ilic to finish at the far post from close range.
