One early goal was enough to keep Welling United’s one hundred percent home league record intact as they beat Leatherhead in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Chris Harris scored his first goal for the club since joining from Aveley as the Wings remained within one point of league leaders Enfield Town.
Demaray Anyadike had the first effort for the Wings when his shot took a deflection that went over goalkeeper Sonny Wheeler and also the bar. Then, from Sam Smith’s corner, Lekan Majoyegbe’s header was cleared off the line by Louie Paget.
In the ninth minute, the Wings went ahead. Chris Arthurs crossed deep and Harris placed his header just inside the post.

Kaan Bennett had a shot pushed around the post as Welling continued to have the better of the exchanges before the visitors had their first goal attempt when Kofi Anokye-Boadi fired over. They had another effort soon after when a Nathan Hogan free kick cleared the Welling defensive wall and the bar.
Having scored his first goal for the Wings, Harris came close to his second when Wheeler tipped his shot onto the post. It came back out to Nahum Melvin-Lambert whose first time effort went wide of the empty net.
At the other end, Deondre Date, twisted and shot and his effort was well held by Mackenzie Foley before Anyadike had another effort for the Wings when he cut in from the right and curled his shot wide of the far post. Just before the end of the first half another Hogan free kick went wide of Foley’s near post.

After the break, there was a flurry of substitutions before Anyadike broke down the wing but his shot went harmlessly wide. Foley’s pinpoint accurate throw then sent him clear again and this time his fierce shot was well beaten out at the near post by Wheeler.
Substitutes Fumnaya Shomotun and Ryan Blackman combined to create an opportunity for Tyrell Miller-Rodney but the Welling midfielder’s radar was off and his shot went well wide. Former Wing Marcel Barrington then received a pass from Matt Everitt only to shoot straight at Foley who saved comfortably.

As the game moved into stoppage time the visitors’ Connor Harris shot just wide after a clearance fell to him before they looked certain to level when Anas Igozouln found space inside the penalty and shot fiercely only to be denied by a stunning save by Foley.
Moments later, the referee blew his final whistle and Welling were able to celebrate their eighth straight home league win with six clean sheets.
