Brad Quinton’s Welling United revival continued with a hard earned home win against Chippenham Town.

Dipo Akinyemi scored the only goal of the game two minutes before half time that kept Welling in thirteenth place and seven points clear of the drop zone.

Chris Zebroski tried his luck almost immediately from the kick off but his long range effort flew well wide. Scott Twine’s deflected shot was saved by Dan Wilks before the visitors had their best chance when Nat Jarvis met Luke Russe’s cross with a glancing header that came back off the far post.

Brad Goldberg did well to battle his way into a shooting position for Welling and Will Puddy beat his shot away with his foot but Akinyemi’s follow up was blocked out by a defender.

Akinyemi looked to be in again soon after but Curtis McDonald got across to make a brilliant last ditch tackle. Cameron James then side footed wide when attempting to find the bottom corner before Jarvis got in behind the Welling back four but Wilks was alert and cut out his low cross.

Twine and Callum Gunner were both off target for Chippenham before Welling went ahead. Nathan Green’s ball over the top failed to pick out James but Akinyemi arrived late to fire home.

Twine was presented with a chance to equalise almost immediately but couldn’t keep his free kick down.

After the break, Chippenham again came out the livelier but Jarvis shot wide from Zebroski’s cross. Guuner blasted an effort out of the ground before Wilks was called upon to get down and behind a low shot from Rhys Tyler.

Quinton responded by replacing James with Montel Agyemang and it had the desired effect as Welling took control of the midfield. The Wings’ substitute played the pass of the match when he sent Anthony Cook clear down the right but his fierce drive was beaten out at the near post by Puddy.

Russe fired well over from thirty yards for the visitors before Agyemang drew a save out of Puddy.

Although not at their enterprising best, Welling contained their visitors comfortably in the remaining time and ran out deserved winners.
