Welling United 1-0 Bromley
Welling United 1-0 Bromley

Although the Kent Reliance Senior Cup might not be the first priority for either team, both managers played strong teams with a semi-final at home to Charlton Athletic as reward for the victors.

It was a tight game with few clear chances until Harry Crawford scored a sensational goal with five minutes remaining.

After a slow start, Rhys Murrell-Williamson had a shot that was deflected out to Crawford but the angle was too tight for him and he was unable to hit the target.

Bradley Goldberg had Bromley’s first goal effort but his shot was blocked for a corner.

Alex Cathline claimed a loose ball ahead of Bromley goalkeeper Ross Flitney but was forced out wide and his effort from a tight angle was hacked out off the line. Ali Fuseini followed up but his shot was blocked.

Murrell-Williamson collected and cut in but Flitney made a comfortable low save.

Cathline was next to try his luck when cutting in and shooting but again it was straight at Flitney.

Blair Turgott hit a free kick against the wall but then lurked on the edge of the area for a set piece and he was able to volley unchallenged. Sadly for him, he couldn’t find the power needed to bother Chris Lewington.

Turgott again threatened when breaking clear down the right hand side but his shot flashed across the face of goal.

Matt Fish took a free kick for Welling ten yards inside the Bromley half and seeing Flitney off his line, tried his luck. Whilst the Bromley custodian may have had a moment of concern, it dipped just after going over the bar.

Nathan Ferguson was well wide with a shot before Cathline was put away by Murrell-Williamson but he over-ran it and Flitney was able to claim.

Early in the second half Turgott sent another effort across the face of goal

Tobi Sho-Silva brought a fine save out of Lewington then Goldberg had a shot blocked by Rickie Hayles as Bromley enjoyed their best spell of the match.

Once more, Turgott tried his luck however Lewington blocked his effort out to Goldberg who had strayed offside.

Vas Karagiannis then missed a great chance from Murrell-Williamson’s cross before the latter fired well over after making his own opportunity.

When Sho-Silva’s next chance was blocked, Turgott looked certain to score but Dean Leacock made a superb last ditch clearance.

As the game became more stretched Crawford played Arel Amu in but Flitney made a superb save with his feet.

He was left bemused with time running out when Crawford shot from forty yards. He back pedalled furiously but was unable to keep it out.

David Martin fired wide for Bromley and both Ali Fuseini for the hosts and Sho-Silva for the visitors fired well over before the referee blew his final whistle.
