Welling United 0-6 Dartford
Welling United 0-6 Dartford

It was men against boys as Dartford put Welling United to the sword at Park View Road.

Steve King’s team won’t reach the heights that they reached at Park View Road every week but teams far better than Welling will struggle to live with the passing and moving, and the solid defending that they showed at Park View Road.

If there were any early thoughts that a local derby might make it a tight game then they could be put aside when Dartford scored with less than a minute on the clock. Danny Leonard got down the right wing and crossed. Although the original cross was cut out, it fell into the path of Noor Husin who finished easily.

Tom Smith made his first save of the day from Ade Azeez then Dan Roberts headed wide from Leonard’s cross.

At the other end, Welling came close when Ben Allen’s cross caused problems but Dipo Akinyemi’s stabbed effort was cleared off the line by Leonard before Azeez shot wide of the near post when Dartford next opened Welling up.

Midway through the first half, Dartford scored again when they broke quickly and Roberts crossed from the left for Azeez to tuck home from close range. The roles were reversed soon after when Azeez created a chance for Roberts but he was unable to turn it home.

Husin fed Jernade Meade whose great cross picked out Luke Allen who side footed over from close range then Akinyemi drew a save out of Dan Wilks following great skills by Aaron Barnes.

Smith made a great save from Allen but Leonard followed up to tuck home before Roberts had the last chance of the half but Smith made the save.

Five minutes into the second half, Dartford made it four through Luke Allen and he was on target again three minutes later after Smith had pushed out Roberts’ low cross shot. Dartford manager Steve King made a double change to keep players fresh but his team continued to press and Connor Essam headed over from close range.

Meade cut in and had a shot saved before the Darts hit their sixth. Allen delivered s free kick to the far post and Azeez tucked it away.

Half chances came and went for both teams but there was no further scoring. Dartford’s success kept them at the peak of the National League South while defeat for Welling leaves them languishing in penultimate place.
