Woeful Welling United slumped out of the F.A. Cup with barely a whimper against Harrow Borough.

Their recent improved form came to an abrupt ending as Harrow Borough, from a league below, enjoyed their visit to Park View Road.

Although Steve Lovell’s young side may lack experience, there is no excuse for a lack of desire but that was demonstrated in the first minute when Ben Allen’s chipped cross only needed a touch at the far post but Dipo Akinyemi was unable to apply it.

Shortly after, Harrow probably should have scored. James Ewington found Dernell Wynter who might have hit it first time but instead, he came back onto his left foot and fired over.

Ponderous defending again caused Welling problems but Tom Smith was alert to the danger and came out to smother as Ewington bore in.

Chi Ezennolim played a raking cross-field pass and Kristian Campbell’s first touch was sublime to help him race past James Taylor and he pulled it back for Akinyemi but he could only blast well over.

Lewis Cole was thwarted twice first by Smith and then when it came back out, Aaron Barnes got back to make the block. Cole was celebrating in first half injury time, though, when he got free down the left and slotted home from a tight angle.

Taylor had a great chance early in the second period but headed narrowly wide from Ewington’s cross then Wynter was just off target with a low drive.

Akinyemi was unable to keep his header down before Harrow had another great chance when Shaun Preddie was given the freedom of the penalty area but headed over from Leo Donnellan’s free kick.

Bradley Stevenson shot beyond the far post before Harrow scored the second goal that they wanted to calm their nerves. Ewington was sent clear and he showed great composure when firing into the bottom corner.

Ade Shokunbi summed up Welling’s day with a wild shot that landed on the roof of a bus at the bus stop.

Substitute Joseph Otudeko had a shot beaten out by Smith and again went close but shot just beyond the post. Finally, the impressive Donnellan had one last chance but his free kick flew over.
