Welling United 0-0 Eastbourne Borough

In a game of few chances, Welling United and Eastbourne Borough played out a goalless draw.

Welling manager Mark Goldberg made four changes, two of which were enforced from the team that played so poorly at Concord Rangers in their previous match.

Positives were keeping a clean sheet and being better organised but Welling lacked any cutting edge up front.

Greg Luer had the first goal effort for the visitors but his shot lacked power and Dan Wilks saved comfortably.

At the other end Luke Rooney had a shot deflected wide then from Anthony Cook’s corner, Nathan Green headed wide.

Joe Anderson had a low shot saved by Tom Hadler and Cook fired a free kick wide of the post.

Luer missed a header from James Ferry’s cross before Rob Swaine headed over from Cook’s corner at the other end.

Wilks held on well to Romain’s low cross shot before Swaine was again off target with a header from an Aaron Cosgrave cross.

Josh Oyinsan had a shot deflected over before Roberto Noiti sliced wide of his own net.

Having finished the half the stronger, Welling lost their way again after the break but the Sports showed why they are yet to score on the road this season.

Elliott Romain shot wide soon after the break before Hadler almost gifted Welling a goal. He raced out wide to clear but only found Green forty yards out. He aimed for the far post as Hadler scrambled back but it went just the wrong side of the post.

Ferry shot straight at Wilks before Romain fired wide of the near post. Kane Wills put in a cross that Ferry should have done better than shooting wide then Charlie Walker missed the target from close range.

When Walker had a shot well saved by Wilks at the near post, Welling almost made them pay in injury time when Ejiro Okosieme’s shot only needed a touch to guide it home but it evaded everyone.
