This season, Welling United have suffered agonies with filling the goalkeeper shirt.

One of the few players to re-join the club from last season was Chris Lewington and he played through pre-season before donning the number one shirt for the first game of the season.

Truro City was the venue for the opener and after going in at the break two down, they pulled back to 2-2 with player manager Jamie Coyle heading both goals from Christian Nanetti dead ball deliveries.

From then on, Welling looked the more likely winners until they got caught out in the final minute when a long ball forward from the left touchline deceived Lewington and floated in. Next day, he contacted the club and had his contract cancelled before signing as cover for Dover Athletic one month later.

Dillon Barnes was signed on loan from Colchester United and was a regular in the team until getting sent off at Havant and Waterlooville. Connor Dymond made a cameo starting with saving a penalty.

As Barnes was suspended, Welling needed cover for their home game with Chippenham Town and Kleton Perntreou, who had been released by Crystal Palace one day after the closure of the transfer window, came in and kept a clean sheet in a comfortable 4-0 victory.

After following up with a second clean sheet in a 2-0 win at Weston-super-Mare, he suffered  a back injury and Barnes returned to the team at Gloucester City, for three more games before his three month loan spell ended.

Next to wear the shirt was Calum Kitscha, but he was clearly rusty and after conceding five in two games, he was sent out on dual registration to get games and broke his finger in his first game.

Young Millwall goalkeeper, Ryan Sandford, then came in but Welling lost five and drew one during his spell and he returned to his parent club.

Jonathan Miles was the next goalkeeper to join, coming in from Ebbsfleet United on a one month loan, and kept two clean sheets in his three matches.

His return to Ebbsfleet meant that Welling needed to find a seventh goalkeeper for the season, including Dymond, and Coyle has signed Brighton and Hove goalkeeper, Bailey Vose for the rest of the season.

Previously, he has represented Dartford, Concord Rangers and Eastbourne Borough and was in the latter’s team that lost 3-0 at Park View Road at the start of January. Welling have no game this weekend so he will have a few training sessions to get to know his new team-mates before the Wings entertain Gloucester City.
