Webster dominates at Dynamos awards

Mason Webster picked up a hat-trick of awards at the Invicta Dynamos End of Season Presentation Evening on Saturday night with teammates Tommy Ralph, Louis Colvin and Ondrej Zosiak also singled out for personal accolades.

FORWARD OF THE YEAR, SUPPORTERS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Mason Webster might have arrived at the Dynamos with a reputation for fist fighting but he has proven himself to be far more than just a physical presence on the ice. In his second season at the Dynamos Webster has finished as the team’s highest points’ scorer having managed 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 38 outings. Of course the team’s hard man also handed out a few beatings for a total of 161 penalty minutes. Webster’s excellent campaign saw him pick up the Forward of the Year award whilst he took 47% of the fans’ vote to take the Supporters’ Player of the Year award presented in memory of Christopher Rushton and was also singled out as the winner of the Players’ Player of the Year accolade.

DEFENCEMAN OF THE YEAR

Tommy Ralph had an excellent second year with the Dynamos playing big minutes back on the blue line and putting up big numbers for a defenceman. The 24 year old Hull man finished as the club’s second highest points’ scorer in 2017/18 with 6 goals and 26 assists giving him a grand total of 32 in 42 outings. Ralph was also just one of three players to feature in every one of the team’s 42 fixtures.

COACH’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Few if any players battled harder than Louis Colvin in 2017/18 and the 18 year old’s efforts were recognised by his Head Coach with the presentation of the Coach’s Player of the Year award. In his first year of senior hockey in the UK, Colvin featured in all but one of the team’s 42 fixtures and managed 18 points with 6 goals and 12 assists to his name. However just as valuable as his points’ tally was his outstanding work rate that made him a standout performer in a difficult campaign for the club.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Slovak defenceman Ondrej Zosiak has been hugely popular at the Dynamos since his arrival in 2015 and the blue liner’s experience proved invaluable in 2017/18 as he continued to look a class above despite the addition of four former EPL sides to the league. Zosiak played in all of the team’s 42 fixtures and chipped in with 3 goals and 11 assists from the defence but his presence in the rear guard was vitally important in limiting opportunities for opposing sides. The skilful Slovak has now played 139 games for the Dynamos and amassed 76 points in the process.
