Wealdstone 0-1 Bromley
Wealdstone 0-1 Bromley

Bromley picked up a vital three points away at struggling Wealdstone on Tuesday night to keep them in the hunt for a play of place with just three games left thanks to a single Joe Kizzi on the hour.

Andy Woodman made two changes to the starting line up with Jack Bridge coming in for Luke Coulson and Frankie Raymond for Liam Trotter, while Harry Forster returned to the bench.

The Stones went into this game on the back of seven consecutive defeats, but their display on the night was superb and they deserved more for their efforts.

Bromley started brightly with Chris Bush hitting diagonal balls to Jack Bridge out wide, and it was Bridge who had an early shot well saved by Askew in the home goal.

With the blustery conditions playing their part Bush’s long throws were a constant threat and Billy Bingham saw a well struck half volley bring out another good save from Askew.

Wealdstone settled from there and Mendy went close when his dangerous ball across the area was hooked away by Charlie Fox for a corner. With the game opening up Raymond played in Michael Cheek, but the National League’s top scorer was denied by Askey’s legs as he came out to narrow the angle.

Wishart’s delivery from out wide was a threat for the home side and as the pressed Hughes and Parish were both booked for heavy challenges in the Bromley area when challenging for the ball going into the break.

Alex Mitchell having to go off injured following the challenge from Hughes.

The second half saw Wealdstone start well, Charles crossed for Parish who headed narrowly over at the far post when well placed.

As the game opened up from there Jack Holland header over a Raymond free kick, the Bromley sub colliding with Askew as he made contact with the ball.

Kizzi headed a corner wide and Cheek shot just off target as he broke clear of the home defence and The Ravens pressure finally paid off on the hour. A long throw from Bush caused a mass scramble in the six yard box and eventually Kizzi stabbed the ball home through a crowd of players to make it 1-0 to Bromley.

James Alabi forced another save from Askew, but as the game opened up again Akimo set up Lo-Everton whose powerful drive was well saved by Cousins and Harbottle drove the rebound over the bar.

Cheek fired wide for The Ravens on another break from the half way line, Raymond had a shot deflected wide and then had another shot bravely blocked by Dyer before Bush fired over from the rebound.

Late on The Stones had one more chance to level up when Mendy played in Gondoh down the right, but his shot was saved by Cousins low down at his near post.

In the final few minutes Bromley ran the ball into the corners and ran the clock down to secure the win, which indicated just how hard Wealdstone had pushed The Ravens to the end.

The win leaves Bromley in eighth, just outside the play off zone on goal difference ahead of their trip to Notts County of Saturday.
